A Typical Kundalini Yoga class

Every Kundalini  Class is different – there are a huge number of Meditations and Kriyas (a set of specific exercises for a desired outcome) to choose from.

The structure of a class, however, generally follows the pattern set out below:

Tuning In

Each  class begins with the mantra Ong Namo Guru Dev Namo. This is called the Adi Mantra. This mantra calls upon the Creator, the Divine Teacher in every human being. It establishes a strong and clear connection so that we can receive the highest guidance, energy and inspiration.

We also chant the Aad GurayNameh which is a mantra of protection – Aad Guray Nameh, Jugaad Guray Nameh, Sat Guray Nameh, Siree Guroo Dayvay Nameh. This invokes the protective energy of the universe.

Warm Ups

We normally start with a few exercises to warm up the spine and prepare our bodies for the Kriya to follow.

In most classes you will  practice a kriya (action) , which is a combination of breathing, movement, mantra.  Each kriya is a set of exercises practiced  in a particular sequence to create a desired effect. For example, there are kriyas to release inner anger or fear, to strengthen your aura, to become intuitive etc. As long as you have a breath in your body, you can receive benefits.

Deep Relaxation
This is where the magic happens. Where you relax after the Kriya you allow yourself to integrate the learning and benefits from the kriya. This is an opportunity for you to let go of the old consciousness that is no longer serving you. This is a deeply healing space.

We follow the deep relaxation with a Meditation when time allows. We use mantra which is the repetition of sound with rhythm that directs and controls the mind. “Man” means mind; “tra” means wave or movement of the mind. These ancient sacred sounds have a profound healing affect on the being. There are many meditations for letting go of the past, clearing stress, for a calm heart, breaking depression, lowering blood pressure, self acceptance , clearing karma and much more ! Many students of of this technology are drawn to the beautiful healing sound current. Meditations are often accompanied by sacred music.

We finish each class with a Blessing called The Long Time Sun.  This song of blessing helps to ground you, to integrate the benefits of the yoga, and to prepare you to resume the activities of everyday life.

Long Time Sun
May the long time sun shine upon you,
All love surround you,
And the pure light within you
Guide your way on.

We normally chant three Long Sat Nams to seal the energy of the class. Sat Nam is the seed Mantra. It means “Truth is your identity; God's name is Truth" “Sat” means Truth, while “Nam” means name or identity.

As at 30.1.13 classes are ongoing. An example of a series of classes, which I ran in 2012  focused on helping us to heal ourselves by strengthening and balancing our first four chakras.

The first, second and third chakras associated with the rectum, sex organs and navel point were thoroughly exercised. From this you may improve the flexibility of your spine, improve your power of digestion and elimination of wastes and toxins.

For example the kriya I taught for the third chakra contained six asana or postures. This kriya can help you feel light and beautiful. Exercise 1 stimulates the navel point energy and circulation of blood in the lungs. Exercise 2 touches the creative power of the sexual energy. Exercise 3 stimulates the navel point. Exercise 4 adjusts the chemical balance in the blood and helps the lower back and waistline. Exercise 5 moves the energy into the brain and eyes. It is reported to have helped headaches and eye diseases such as cataract. Exercise 6 removes any residual tension and allows you to relax.

I am leaving the following description of an earlier term of classes on this site for your information. In that term the focus was on learning yogic kriyas and meditations that are beneficial for our stomachs and that can remove sadness and fear from our personalities. Sometimes during the first nine months of life, when we are in the womb, we pick up fears that become part of our personality. We will learn yoga that helps us to overcome these fears. This yoga opens our heart so we can give and receive love without fear, anger or resentment and we can experience compassion. In this state of compassion we can release the pain of former relationships, energise current relationships on a higher level and begin to express our divine essence We will learn meditations that takes care of phobias, fears, and neuroses. And can take difficult situations in the present and release them into the hands of Infinity.

I am leaving the following information about the Self Sensory Human on the site. I will teach a course about this later in the year. Keep in touch to see when it is on.

Yogi Bhajan said on 22.1.2001 "As long as we are dwelling in our five senses, we are asking for trouble. We must come to dwell in the sixth sense, which controls the other five senses, the five elements and the nine holes. To control and direct this trinity is the faculty of the Sensory Human. The faculties of a Sensory Human will be from here to Infinity. As we enter the Age of Aquarius we must rebuild ourselves to be Sensory Beings.

Yogi Bhajan, see, left us yoga kriyas and meditations  to help us rebuild ourselves to be Sensory Beings. These are the Kundalini Yoga Kriyas and Meditations that I taught in this series of classes.

Yogi Bhajan’s Teachings on the Sensory System

By Guru Rattana Kaur Khalsa, Ph.D

The development of the human Sensory System is one of the major themes of Yogi Bhajan’s later lectures. Below I have compiled notes from some of these lectures. This material is an important point of reference for the coming years as we move from the Piscean to the Aquarian Age.

The Human Sensory System

The human sensory system is going to be our greatest asset in the Aquarian Age. We can cultivate our sensory system by consciously connecting to our breath, strengthening our nervous system, activating our glandular system, balancing our emotional energies, and channeling our mental energy to intuitive awareness. As we cultivate a subtle sensitivity to our being, we will experience a sense of completeness within ourselves that will give us great satisfaction. We will have the capacity to feel calm, contained, content, and straight. We will no longer feel the need to be validated from outside because energetically we will validate ourselves by going deep inside our own being.

Destiny and Attraction Mode

As we establish a sense of our own identity, our destiny will be revealed to us. Everyone has a special destiny. What we came here to do will become clear. It is our job to deliver it in a meditative way. As we achieve a sense of completeness and balance within ourselves, the energy, that we once used to compensate for our perceived limitations and to get validation from outside, will be available to attract what we need to make our unique contribution to the world.

The Shift is Happening Now

On an individual level, if people are not disciplined, they will be unable to handle the intense energy and its implications. InYogi Bhajan’s words, “In the next eleven years we will find people getting empty, more perturbed, not able to bear enough, not having much tolerance, and very argumentative.” Instead of channeling the energy to manifest, people will use the pressure as an excuse to get drunk, take drugs, or to compensate through other outside stimulation. Those who cannot hold the energy in their own bodies will experience hopelessness and despair. Those who can incorporate the higher frequencies will get high off of the energy and experience bliss. They will know that this is one of the best times to be alive. They will enjoy themselves in the moment and have a genuine experience of love and joy.

How Can We Develop our Sensory System?

Yogi Bhajan has offered us the following touchstones:

·               Be the prayer

·               Allow and commit to deep cleansing

·               Find your identity inside yourself

·               Be very honest, open, and straight with yourself

·               Learn self-control

·               Learn to contain your own energy

·               Cultivate inner contentment

·               If there is a choice, choose the positive

·               Identify your destiny and serve

·               Cultivate character, commitment, and grace

·               Balance yourself, so you don’t need to be compensated from outside

·               Give up manipulation and control

·               When you want something, get clear, ask, be calm, and let it come

·               Develop a meditative mind to wait and see what comes to you

·               Develop a relationship with a working God that dwells and breathes within you
